Luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) in all its forms (vinyl tiles, vinyl planks or vinyl sheets) is a great option for budget-friendly floors that don’t look cheap. Luxury vinyl flooring can mimic other types of more expensive floors while being extremely durable and easy to clean. If you have LVF or are looking to upgrade your floors to LVF, learning how to clean vinyl floors can be quick and easy. A simple routine of dusting and mopping should be all you need to protect your luxury vinyl flooring.

Daily Floor Care Schedule

Dusting and Spot Cleaning
Giving your luxury vinyl floors a good dusting with a wet/dry microfiber mop will be your best defense against scratches and surface damage. Daily dusting helps remove dirt and particles that can scratch or scuff your floors. Clean up spills immediately to avoid staining.

Weekly Floor Care Schedule

Mop
Damp mopping is ideal for removing dirt, debris and allergens that aren’t removed by dusting alone. When mopping, use a gentle floor cleaner—you won’t need a traditional mop and bucket. Excess water on LVF can have many risks: a slippery surface, mold/mildew or weakening of glue (if installed with adhesive). Lightly misting your floor with an appropriate cleaner will be enough to give it a great clean.

Luxury Vinyl Flooring Protection

With a good maintenance plan, your LVF is pretty much good to go. For some added protection, placemats or rugs at entryways or other traffic areas to minimize the amount of dirt and debris that gets onto your vinyl floors. Make sure all furniture has some felt pads and avoid dragging furniture on your floor. Use plywood boards to protect LVF when moving large, heavy objects. Also, make sure to you have some shades or curtains to protect LVF from the UV rays that can cause fading. Make sure pets’ nails are trimmed and, if you have plants in your house, put a waterproof tray underneath to avoid excess moisture on your floors.
